Haven’s Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 2016, after our precious daughter, Haven Eileen, lost her life to a genetic disease. Having experienced the trauma and heartbreak of losing one so young; of suffering through the endless hours of watching our daughter suffer; of being helpless to stop the pain and unable to understand it, we were struck by the outpouring of love and support for us, as well as the hard work and dedication of those medical professionals who were trying to end this nightmare existence we found ourselves living through. Thus, we acutely understand the needs of those who go through an ordeal such as this. It’s what motivates us in our quest to help ease the burden on others.
In 2016, a generous gift from the Hauppauge-based DiLorenzo Family and the Charlotte-based Haven Eileen Kiley Foundation set the wheels in motion for beautiful music to be made at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. The Musician-in-Residence program at Good Sam features weekly visits and music sessions through the Medical Center’s Child Life Program from Lauren Hirsch, a music therapist who is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in special education. Through the Musician-in-Residence program, Lauren has been able to combine her love of children with her passion for music.
Once a week, Lauren visits the Pediatric Unit at Good Sam and turns the Unit’s unique playroom into a space for patients to experience the healing power of music. Children and their families are encouraged to join in group song and playful exploration of various musical instruments. When the weather permits, the concerts and patient jam sessions are taken outside to the Unit’s rooftop garden and deck.
A BIG 'thank you' goes out to the Haven Kiley Foundation for your generous donation yesterday of $10,000 and LOTS of Christmas gifts. The Haven Kiley Foundation provides comfort and support to families who are struggling to cope with the physical and emotional trauma associated with childhood illness or injury.
